1) Mr. Pips Fruits
Grades: 2-3
Summary: This drag and drop balance scales simulation allows students to explore the weight of different fruits.


How to integrate: Modeled, Shared
Using this model, have student demonstrate the concept of lighter and heaver and what it looks like on a scale. 


2) Fruit Scales
Grades: 2-3
Summary:  Using a balance scale, find how many grams it takes to balance the scale.

This is a great way to teach students how to find equivalent weight. 

3) Weight It Up
Grades: 2-4
Summary: Try to match the weight on the left and make it equal.

Yet another great practice scale game to teach the students the idea of balance.



4) BBC Bitesize - Measurement
Grades: 1-3
Summary: Help Molly load the boat by choosing the right size and the right weight from a selection of parcels available.

This is a great game for students to demonstrate what they have learned.  Use it as a hook or a review.

5) Length, Weight and Capacity
Grades: 4-6
Summary: Practise converting between mm, cm and metres to build a new shed.

Use it as a class review.  See how many questions teams can answer - Jeopardy style 

6) Scales Reader
Grades: 1-3
Summary:  Just like Measures, ICT games has an excellent easy-to-read scale for measuring mass.  There are four options.  Up to 5kg, 500g, 1kg and 6kg.  Students will need to enter the measurement in kilograms for points.


How to integrate: Shared and Modeled
Once again the keyboard function will limit the total integration of the Smartboard but there are always ways around it.


7) Mostly Postie
Grades: 2-4
Summary: Weight the parcel and enter the mass.  There are three options for this ICT game.  1) kg and half kg (answer can be given in grams) 2) Grams 1 - multiples of 50g 3) Grams 2 - Multiples of 10


How to integrate: Shared, Independent
Great game on the Smart Board, no need for the keyboard. This time there is an on screen keyboard just students.

8) Play-a-Weigh
Grades: 2-6
Summary:  Beat the clock by matching the scale with the correct number. Level 2 is also available 


How to integrate: Shared
Students will have a blast by trying to beat other classmates at reading and matching the scale.


9) Maximum Capacity
Grades: 4-6
Summary: You have three minutes to bring up as many gorillas as you can to the eighth floor.  Try to fit each elevator as close to maximum capacity as you can.

Race against the clock to see which team can carry as many gorillas as you can. 

10) Alien cookbook
Grades: 4-6
Summary: Help Hutch make recipes in his alien cookbook.  Students must measure, weigh and deal with fractions when helping Hutch complete each recipe.

This game is great for reading directions and involves various math skills.  

11) Poddle Weight In
Grades: 2-4
Summary: Help find the weight of the Poddle by balancing the scale. You can only use up to 6 weights per Poddle.

This game teaches students that size sometime is deceiving but scales don't lie.

Grades: 1-2
Summary: Choose the heavier object.

1) Cardinal Direction 
Grade: 1-2
Strand: Canada and World Connections
Summary: Pearson designed a simple site for students to become familiar with cardinal direction.   Students must steer the car using the cardinal direction, towards the parking space.

How to integrate: Modeled and Shared
Students will have a great time trying to direct the car by clicking on the directions on the Smartboard.  Use it as a review of past knowledge or a quick hook.


2) Build your own Neighbourhood
Grade: 1
Strand: Canada and World Connections
Summary:  Students can have fun building different parts of a community by dragging and dropping "stamps" or pictures onto the background.


How to integrate:  Shared, Modelled
Design a neighborhood as a class.  Have students work in groups to design a community as a class.


3) Map it Canada
Grade: 4
Strand: Canada and World Connections
Summary: A quick and easy way to test your students knowledge on capital cities, provinces, landmarks and animals that is unique to each province.   Students must drag and drop the different topics to it's location.

Turn this site to a great review of the unit by having students complete in groups to answer the questions.
